Keno Game Glossary

The terms below are to provided to help you understand and enjoy Keno better, there may be gambling terms we have overlooked however, feel free to contact us with any known omissions or corrections you may like to contribute.

Account Card

Many players have an account with their local club or tab, the account card provides them with easy access to their accounts and ease of betting.

Agent

Many hotels, clubs and TAB are keno agents.

All or Nothing

A keno ticket that pays if all selected numbers are drawn or if no selected numbers are drawn.

Balls

Number selection in keno is drawn by a mechnical device that extracts numbered plastic balls by blowing those balls into a tube.

Bet

An action a player takes pursuant to the rules of the game in which the player risks an amount of money on an event for a desired outcome.

Blank Ticket

Refers to a keno ticket which has not yet been used.

Blower

The blower is the device that blows air onto the balls to force the balls randomly into a tube and become the game results.

Board

A digital display board which scrolls the winning numbers for each keno game for all players to see.

Bowl

The bowl contains the numbered plastic balls whilst the blower is not on.

Caller

A casino employee who calls out the keno numbers as each game is drawn usually over speaker.

Cash Limit

Refers to the limit that can be paid out in cash for keno winnings, amounts greater than this limit are paid by check.

Casino

A place of business that houses a selection of gambling activities involving licensed games where players can wager on the outcome of the those games for potential profit.

Catch

A term that means a number marked on your keno ticket has been drawn.

Catch All

A game that requires that all numbers you have marked on your keno ticket to be drawn.

Catch Zero

The opposite of catch all, the game requires you to catch none of the marked numbers on your ticket.

Close

Normally just prior to a draw the casino stops writting tickets and closes-out the game until after the draw.

Computer Ticket

A computer generated keno ticket, as opposed to numbers selected by a player.

Draw

In each keno game 20 numbers are drawn, this is referred to as the draw.

Draw Sheet

Available to all players that request it, a draw sheet shows all numbers drawn from the previous game, also referred to as a draw ticket.

Entry Fee Tournament

A game where players pay a entry fee up front to compete with each other for cash or prizes.

Field

Refers to a group of marked numbers that a player has not circled.

Forward Games

Forward games are future keno games bet on in advance.

Gambling

Is an action a player takes when he risks an amount of money against the casino or game for a desired outcome.

Handle

A term used that represents all the money taken in for a game, shift or day.

High Roller Ticket

A keno ticket that has a high minimum purchase price.

Hit

When a drawn number matches your selected number on your keno ticket it is called a hit.

House Edge

Refers to the advantage that a casino has over a player.

Jackpot

Refers to the additional amount above the normal payout amount, this is the jackpot amount.

Keno

A game where players can select up to 10 numbers from a total of 80 numbers and wager on the outcome.

Keno Counter

The counter or cashier in the casino where players can place their bets and collect winnings.

Keno Lounge

An area in a casino where keno is played.

Keno Ticket

1) A form a player uses for selecting the numbers he wishes to wager on. 2) a ticket which numbers has been randomly generated by a computer by the keno writer, know as a kwik pik.

Keno Writer

A casino employee who accepts player bets, and pays out winning tickets.

Kwik Pik

A keno ticket which numbers are randomly generated for the player at the players request.

Multi Game Ticket

A keno ticket that is played for multiple games.

Number Pool

Is the total range of numbers 1-80 from which a player selects the numbers they wish to wager on.

Odds

The probability that a certain outcome will happen.
Original Ticket The original blank ticket used by a player to select their desired numbers to wager, which was also presented to the keno writer.

Pay Any Catch Ticket

Refers to a keno ticket that pays regardless of how many numbers are caught.

Pay Table

Is a table that shows the payout for each win.

Player

A term used to described a person who places bets (gambles) in a casino.

Probability

Probability is the mathematical odds of a certain event occurring, in gambling that would mean the possibility of a players wager winning.

Progressive

Progressive betting is where the payout amount keeps increasing with every bet until the jackpot is won.

Quick Pick

A keno ticket which numbers are randomly generated for the player at the players request, same as Kwik-Pik.

Random Number Generator

Also known as a RNG, a computer software program that randomly selects numbers in a keno game.

Split Ticket

A ticket where two or more groups of numbers are played separately using the same ticket.

Top-Bottom Ticket

A ticket that is horizontally marked in the center with the object of the game to either catch or not to catch numbers on one half of the ticket.

Video Keno

The game keno is also played on a computer terminal similiar to video poker using a RNG to pick the numbers.

Wager

Also referred to as a bet is used to described the action of a player that places a certain amount of money down on a number or group of numbers, betting against the casino for a desired outcome.

Winnings

A positive outcome to a players wager and a payout from the casino would result.
